Duties and Responsibilities:
Reporting to an Environmental Supervisor, this position will be responsible for:- Carrying out any and all duties that would normally be carried out by an Environmental Division employee during a regularly scheduled shift while working in any of the following classifications: One-Person Packer, Front Loading Refuse Packer, Refuse Collector-Driver 2 Person Packer, Service Attendant, and Vacuum Sweeper Operator.
- Those duties may include, but are not limited to the following: Drives and operates any of the Refuse and/or Service vehicles under minimum supervision and abides by all Traffic Acts and regulations;
- Required to conduct equipment maintenance activities including pre and post circle checks, fueling, cleaning of cab & truck body, reporting deficiencies, inspection of grease system, brushes and nozzles;
- Loads all type of refuse into packers, specific to each vehicles specifications in a safe and efficient manner;
- Drives and operates in a variety of difficult situations a vacuum street sweeper;
- Operates hydraulic levers as required to load and unload debris, and/or a manual pick up of refuse as needed which requires a high level of physical demand lifting up to 22 kg on a repetitive basis during the collection operations;
- Services and sets up lights and barricades, picks up dead animals, and cleans up debris from City streets or accidents;
- Cooperates and communicates with other employees and the general public;
- Reports all customer service problems encountered each day;
- Works in all types of weather conditions;
- Prepares daily reports on designated forms.
- Will perform Occupational Health and Safety duties as outlined in the Corporate Health & Safety Program.
- Will perform other related duties as required.
Qualifications:
- Must have an Ontario Secondary School Graduation Diploma, or Ontario Ministry of Education Equivalency.
- Must currently hold a valid and have the ability to maintain a lawful Class “D” driver’s license with a “Z” endorsement, and must have over one (1) consecutive year’s legal experience driving a “DZ” vehicle in accordance with the Highway Traffic Act for purposes of operating a City of Windsor vehicle.
- Must be able to demonstrate minimum experience required for this position as outlined above.
- Must have the ability to complete daily work reports.
- Must have the ability to perform duties with minimal direction or supervision in all positions.
- Must maintain good personal and public relations.
- Must have knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act, its regulations and knowledge of the hazards associated with the work.
- Must complete a post-offer agility test in an effort to assist the successful candidate in completing the position tasks safely and to aid in minimizing injuries on the job.
