Duties and Responsibilities:
- Under the direction of the designated Supervisor of Community Programming or designate, the successful applicant will supervise and ensure the safety of customers at all City of Windsor aquatic locations. Duties will include but will not be limited to:
- Providing a safe and clean environment; maintaining customer service and public relations; guarding in pool and water park environments.
- Lifeguards may be rotated to various Recreation facilities to accommodate programming requirements.
- Eligible and qualified Lifeguards will be required to perform the duties of an Aquatics Instructor.
- Will perform Occupational Health & Safety duties as outlined in the Corporation’s Health and Safety Program.
- Will perform other related duties as required.
Qualifications:
- Must be a minimum of 15 years of age at time of employment;
- Must have completed an Ontario Secondary School Grade 10 education or will obtain Grade 10 within 1 year of hire date or Ontario Ministry of Education equivalency;
- Must have over three (3) months experience in aquatics;
- Must hold and maintain the following current awards as a condition of employment:
- Lifesaving Society National Lifeguard Pool Certification current and valid (within 2 years)
- Lifesaving Society National Lifeguard Water Park Certification current and valid (within 2 years);
- CPR Basic Rescuer (Level C) Certification current and valid (within 1 year)
- Standard First Aid Certification from an organization recognized by the Province current and valid (within 3 years); and
- All aquatic awards must be current and valid as a condition of employment or be obtained by employment start date (proof of enrolment required)
- A 6-digit Lifesaving Society ID number (found at the bottom right hand corner of any Lifesaving Society certification) or your LSS verification code is required at time of application.
- All staff are required to both lifeguard and instruct (teach). Additional qualifications for the Aquatics Instructor position are outlined below. Applicants must have all qualifications noted in both the Lifeguard and Aquatics Instructor positions.
ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS (AQUATICS INSTRUCTOR – REC012)
- Must meet all Lifeguard qualifications above;
- Must hold and maintain the following current awards as a condition of employment:
- Lifesaving Society Lifesaving Instructor Certification current and valid (within 2 years);
- Lifesaving Society Swim Instructor Certification current and valid (within 2 years);
- Lifesaving Society Emergency First Aid Instructor current and valid (within 2 years).
- Must hold by date of hire, HIGH FIVE Principles of Healthy Child Development training program.
