Duties and Responsibilities:
In keeping with the daily requirements for the successful operation and maintenance of the City of Windsor Parks System, reporting to a Manager(s) in the Parks, Recreation & Facilities department or designate(s) this position will operate various equipment required to maintain Parks, Sports Fields and other seasonal grounds of various terrains in a safe and efficient manner including, but not limited to:- Various sizes and types of mowers, tractors and small equipment to: Cut grass, spread fertilizer and/or grass seed, use buckets, plough snow, spread salt, groom ball diamonds, dig soil, and other duties associated with landscaping functions;
- Perform various duties related to caretaking of facilities and grounds as assigned including, but not limited to: the maintenance of playgrounds, sport fields, picnic areas and other facilities, including cleaning work areas of litter and debris;
- Will drive “A”, “B” and/or “C” truck as necessary;
- Will perform routine operator/driver maintenance on equipment and vehicles to make adjustments and replace worn parts not requiring a Licensed Mechanic, as well as performing routine maintenance to Facilities;
- Will perform daily check of all equipment as required;
- Prepare daily written logs and forms including but not limited to: service work performed and problems encountered;
- Assist members of the public in the use of the various Park facilities;
- Monitor and report on Parks By-Laws and Regulations, as required;
- Will perform Occupational Health & Safety duties as outlined in the Corporation’s Health and Safety Program;
- Will perform other related duties as required.
Qualifications:
- Must have an Ontario Secondary School Graduation Diploma or Ontario Ministry of Education equivalency;
- Must have a minimum of one (1) year of relevant experience in areas, such as: equipment operation and property maintenance;
- Must have good public relation skills and have the ability to work in a team environment;
- Must be able to work with minimum supervision;
- Must be able to keep records and complete paperwork as assigned;
- Must be available for shifts scheduled Sunday through Saturday inclusive of statutory holidays;
- Must hold and maintain a current, valid and lawful Class G Driver's Licence in accordance with the Highway Traffic Act, for the purposes of operating a City of Windsor vehicle;
- Must provide a driver’s abstract as a condition of employment;
- Will require a post-offer agility test in an effort to assist the successful candidate in completing the position tasks safely and to aid in minimizing injuries on the job, if required;
- Must have knowledge of the Occupational Health & Safety Act and the hazards associated with the work.
