Duties:
The Registered Nurse plays a vital role in delivering resident-centered care in accordance with the standards of the College of Nurses of Ontario, applicable Ministry of Long-Term Care legislation, and Huron Lodge’s policies and procedures. Reporting to the Director of Care or designate, this position:
- Will ensure that safe, high-quality care is provided to residents on a 24-hour basis by supervising and delegating (as per the CNO Practice Guidelines) the work of all staff on the unit.
- Responsibilities include completing the InterRAI assessment process, assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating individualized resident care plans.
- Administering medications and treatments as prescribed.
- Monitoring, responding to, and documenting changes in residents’ health status.
- The RN collaborates with interdisciplinary team members, residents, and families, and provides leadership and supervision to Personal Support Workers and Registered Practical Nurses.
- The role also includes ensuring compliance with infection prevention and control protocols
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives and audits and maintain accurate and timely documentation using electronic health records.
Qualifications:
- Must hold and maintain a current Certificate of Registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario as a Registered Nurse;
- Must have experience in nursing within the last five (5) years;
- Must have strong clinical assessment and critical thinking skills, excellent communication and interpersonal abilities, and the ability to work effectively as a team leader.
- Must communicate with the general public and fellow staff in a courteous and tactful manner;
- Knowledge of relevant legislation, including the Fixing Long-Term Care Act (FLTCA) and the Occupational Health & Safety Act, is considered an asset.
- Must complete a post-offer agility test in an effort to assist the successful candidate in completing the position tasks safely and to aid in minimizing injuries on the job;
- Previous experience in the field of geriatrics will be an asset;
- Verification of a current Heart Saver Level A plus current First Aid Certificate will be deemed as asset.
HOURS OF WORK:
07:00 hours – 15:00 hours. (Day Shifts)
15:00 hours – 23:00 hours. (Evening Shifts)
23:00 hours – 07:00 hours. (Night Shifts)
