Duties and Responsibilities:

Reporting to the Supervisor, EarlyON Child and Family Centres, or designate, this position is responsible for:
  • In co-operation with other centre staff, this position will design and implement various classroom activities that support the discovery of joy in learning by fostering a sense of self-esteem in each child;
  • Will provide a safe and nurturing environment that promotes the physical, social, emotional, intellectual and language development of each child while being sensitive to the needs and preferences of families;
  • Will strive to achieve a good balance between children’s self-initiated learning and adult-led activities in a learning environment based on each child’s developmental level, strengths, needs, interests and experience; 
  • Will undertake a team approach to teaching duties and perform other related duties as required to support the effective operation of the EarlyON Child and Family Centres;
  • Must maintain amiable relations with co-workers and customers;
  • Will perform Occupational Health & Safety duties as outlined in the Corporation’s Health and Safety Program;
  • Will perform other related duties as required.

Qualifications:

  • Must have a two (2) year Community College Diploma in Early Childhood Education or Ontario Ministry of Education equivalency;
  • Must have up to three (3) months of related experience;
  • Must be currently registered with the College of Early Childhood Educators;
  • Must have the ability to travel to off site locations in a timely and expedient manner as required. If method of travel is by vehicle, a current valid and lawful Driver's Licence is required in accordance with the Highway Traffic Act and must provide a driver’s abstract as a condition of employment; and
  • Experience working in an early childhood environment will be considered an asset.
