Duties and Responsibilities:       

Reporting to the Manager of Public Service (Collections), this position will be responsible for:

  • Plan, organize, and promote the collections of Municipal Archives as a resource for the Windsor Public Library system.
  • Provides service to related to Windsor Public Library Local History Collections.
  • Selects, preserves and makes records accessible to the public.
  • Supervises Archives employees; promotes the Windsor Public Library Mission Statement and provides excellent customer service.
  • Provides advisory and reference service.
  • Instructs patrons in the use of documents, materials and resources e.g. guides, finding aids, forms and documents.
  • Develops the collection of the Municipal Archives including selecting, transferring, appraising, arranging and describing records and deaccessioning records.
  • Plans and coordinates the conservation of archival materials.
  • Conserves archival material including restoring, repairing and conducting preventative treatments.
  • Trains, directs, schedules and participates in the evaluation of pages, student interns and special project staff.
  • Develops contacts with organizations, agencies and regional, provincial and national organizations.
  • Promotes the services and activities of the Archives, Local History and Genealogy.
  • Occasionally investigates, reviews and prepares applications for grants.
  • Collaborate with the City of Windsor for record management.
  • Secures municipal archives.
  • Will perform Occupational Health & Safety duties as outlined in the Corporation’s Health & Safety Program.
  • Will perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Must have a Master’s degree in Archival Studies or an ALA accredited Library & Information Science (MLIS) with an Archival specialty.
  • Minimum of one 1 to 3 years related work experience in a library, municipal or government environment.
  • Must have excellent customer service and customer relations skills for working with people of all ages.
  • Demonstrate excellent interpersonal, conflict resolution, communication and organizational skills.
  • Must have exceptional written and oral communication skills.
  • Must be proficient in the use of computer systems including word processing, spreadsheets, presentations and Library Information Systems.
  • Must have the ability and the flexibility to manage assignments and changing tasks within a team environment.
